​What Is Career Stuff?

 

I'm Jody Smith, and I've been working in the world of "talent" since 2011 (in other words ... a bloody long time). I've worked in government, start-ups, tech, construction, major infrastructure, banking, insurance - you name it, I've recruited it.

 

Over the last 9 years, I've been in leadership roles, operating at a strategic level and applying Service Design thinking to real-world Talent problems. The human experience is important to me, so I ensure humans are at the centre of every talent process I design.

During my career, something that disheartens (and frustrates) me is how many job seekers I speak to who can't figure out how to navigate their job search - through no fault of their own. They ask for feedback and don't get any, they get ghosted on their applications, or they get generic "it's not you, it's us" responses that don't serve nobody.​

Career Stuff is a brain fart I fluffed out of my head and into the world back in 2020, after I found I was consistently having the same conversations with candidates trying to figure out the world of jobs. While I still work full-time in talent, I operate Career Stuff on the side and hold the hands of job seekers all over Australia to help them navigate the very confusing world of job hunting.

 

Because I am still working full-time in the talent space, this means I have my finger on the pulse of emerging talent trends, assessment tools, generative AI, applicant tracking systems (ATS) etc. ​​​
